Sterantis "Tomahawk" trademark; a new performance offering?

Sterantis renewed trademark protection for the name Tomahawk last week.

As CarBuzz first noted, the application for trademark protection was filed on June 23 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a motor vehicle application.

While there has been no production model called Tomahawk from any of Sterantis' brands, some readers may recall the wild Viper V-10-powered Dodge Tomahawk motorcycle concept unveiled at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show. More recently, Dodge's performance sub-brand SRT has used the name for three virtual concept cars known as the SRT Tomahawk Vision Gran Turismo Concept.

If Sterantis were to actually use Tomahawk for a production model, it would almost certainly be a performance model, given the past uses of the name. Sterantis is known to be working on several new performance products.

One possibility could be a plug-in hybrid version of Sterantis' recently announced Hurricane Twin Turbo 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine. This engine has already been confirmed to produce 500 hp from the turbocharger alone in the H.O. (High Output) version, but an even more powerful electrified Tomahawk version may replace the Hellcat engine, which will end with the 2023 model year.

A cooler option would be to use the name for Dodge's electric muscle car due in 2024. We should have an idea what the electric muscle car will be called when Dodge unveils a practical concept version later this year. Dodge plans to unveil the "Muscle of the Future" at this event, with two more announcements to come. Stay tuned.
