Vinfast to Debut Wild Electric Truck Concept at 2024 CES

Vietnamese electric vehicle startup VinFast hinted at the next evolution of its lineup at the 2024 CES, confirming several new models for the US market.

VinFast just delivered its first vehicle in the U.S. a year ago, but already has four models for sale, all crossovers, with more in the pipeline.

As the VF Wild concept unveiled at CES shows, one of the potentials for the company is an electric mid-size pickup truck, and VinFast has not hidden the fact that the VF Wild is only the company's first attempt at an electric truck. Nevertheless, the VF Wild looks promising.

The crew cab truck was developed in conjunction with Australian design firm Gomitiv, and VinFast describes it as featuring a "fluid dynamism" inspired by the flowing movements of a superhero cape. The interior features suede gray fabrics and plenty of brown leather for a luxurious feel. A large screen serves as the infotainment hub, and the driver uses a low-profile digital meter cluster behind the steering wheel.

The VF Wilde is 209 inches long, about 6 inches shorter than the nearly full-size Rivian R1T. A flexible midgate means the bed size can be expanded from 5 feet to 8 feet when the rear seats are folded down.

No details on the powertrain have been revealed, but given the competition, dual-motor all-wheel drive is at least an option.

When the VF Wild goes into production, the U.S. will likely be the target market. That is, it could be produced at the Vinfast plant under construction in North Carolina, and it could be exempt from the 25% tax on imported light trucks and receive EV incentives.

Vinfast also unveiled the VF 3 mini crossover and the DrgnFly e-bike at CES. Vinfast said that both models are expected to be sold in the U.S. and that the DrgnFly is already promised to be priced around $2,800.
