2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata updated, base price $30,150

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is now available for the 2024 model year, with minor updates that add even more polish to an already accomplished sports car.

But the updates come at a price: the 2024 MX-5 Miata's base grade "Sport" starts at $30,150, including a $1,165 destination charge. This is the first time Mazda's base price for a sports car has exceeded the $30,000 mark, up from $29,215 in 2023.

The 2024 model is identifiable by its revised headlights with new LED daytime running lights. New LED taillights were also added along with new wheel patterns. On the exterior, a new color, Aero Gray, has been added.

On the interior, padding has been added around the center console for improved comfort. The infotainment system features a large 8.8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Amazon's Alexa voice assistant was also included for the first time.

Mechanical changes include a new steering rack that Mazda says reduces friction. This is combined with recalibrated software for electronic power steering assist, which Mazda claims provides smoother steering when cornering and improved stability when cruising on the highway.

Buyers of the "Club" grade, which is better suited for circuit driving, will get an additional track mode that gives the electric stability control more leeway when driving on the track. The Club grade starts at $33,650 including destination.

An asymmetric limited-slip differential is also available for 2024. According to Mazda, it improves handling by reducing oversteer during lift-off and providing more predictable turn-in.

All MX-5 Miatas are powered by a 181-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that sends power to the rear wheels. The standard transmission is a six-speed manual, but the Grand Touring grade, which starts at $35,450, can be swapped for a six-speed automatic for an additional $920.

The 2024 MX-5 Miata will go on sale later this winter.

Mazda has not revealed how long the current fourth-generation MX-5 Miata will last. However, Mazda has hinted that future generations will be electrified in some form: the Iconic SP concept, unveiled at the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show, will feature Mazda's electric powertrain and use the rotary engine as a pure range extender in a series It highlighted the possibility of a configuration known as a plug-in hybrid. However, Mazda may save such a setup for a larger sports car like the RX-8 successor.
