1991 Acura NSX owned by Ayrton Senna for sale at Autotrader
A Honda NSX owned by legendary F1 driver Ayrton Senna is for sale on Auto Trader.
Cars with such pedigree are usually sold through major auction houses, but the car's current owner, Robert McFagan, wanted to sell it through the popular British classifieds site. The selling price is 500,000 British pounds (approximately $622,000). Considering that similar NSXs are selling for less than $100,000, this is a significant price increase for the owner's track record.
McFagan acquired the car on a trip to the Algarve region of Portugal in 2013. The car is one of three original NSXs that Senna regularly drove; it was first registered in 1991 and was used by the triple world champion while he was in Portugal. Senna, who was leading the McLaren F1 team at the time, which used Honda power units, drove two more NSXs. Both were black; one was in Brazil and the other in Portugal. [They were also featured in Senna's 1992 documentary Racing Is in My Blood. With only 39,100 miles on the odometer, McFagan is believed to be the second owner.
The first NSX, like the last, was sold as an Acura in the U.S., but the connection to Senna goes deeper than just being his company car. During development, Honda turned to its motorsports program for tuning strategies. Senna joined that program and donated much of his time to making the NSX a great driving machine.
He convinced engineers to make the chassis even stiffer, provided feedback on suspension tuning, and pushed the car hard on numerous circuits, including the Nürburgring. It is fair to say that Senna was part of the reason the first-generation NSX was so superior.
Now you can buy the model he himself owned and drove. For fans of the original NSX and for fans of motorsports, this is a unique opportunity.
