McLaren explains why the Senna GTR's wing is bigger.

McLaren has released a series of videos highlighting some of the innovations used in its cars.

The first of these shows how the Elva speedster deflects wind away from the cabin without a windshield.

The second series focuses on the rear wing of the Senna GTR track car. It is commented on by Esteban Palazzo, chief designer of McLaren's road car division.

He states that the engineers working on the Senna GTR set themselves the task of creating a downforce of 1,000 kg (2,205 lb). So Palazzo had to somehow integrate the huge wing into the Senna's design.

Yes, it may look ridiculous to some, but the Senna GTR is purely a track toy. In other words, McLaren could design it with virtually no input from the FIA or government agencies.

A new series of McLaren videos will be released at least two more times. They will cover the design of the new 765LT supercar and McLaren's ignition disconnect system, which allows for faster gear changes.
