Is Fisker's next EV an Alaska pickup truck?

It was last August that Henrik Fisker, CEO and founder of Fisker Automotive, announced plans for two more vehicles on the battery-electric platform that powers the recently unveiled Ocean SUV.

The announcement was made via a Twitter post that included an image of a pickup truck tailgate, suggesting that one of Fisker's next EVs would be a pickup.

Things quieted down for a while, but Fisker posted a new, more sophisticated image of a pickup truck tailgate on Twitter this week. The image has since been removed, but thankfully not before it was downloaded by the folks at Motor1.

We will probably never know why Fisker deleted the image, but there are several possible reasons: one possibility is that after Fisker made this post, he quickly realized that Renault was already selling a pickup truck called the Alaskan.

Whatever the reason, Fisker already has a lot on its plate. The company has not yet announced a production site, but has promised to begin manufacturing the Ocean by the end of 2021. Fisker also unveiled the EMotion sedan and announced plans for a solid-state battery, but both of these projects appear to be on the back burner for now.

Hopefully Fisker can get the Ocean into production. Prices start at $37,499 excluding destination, with a $7,500 federal tax credit. It can also be leased for as little as $379 per month, and the lease price includes all repair and maintenance costs, not bad terms for an electric SUV with an 80-kilowatt-hour battery and a claimed range of 300 miles.
