The new Blue Moss Collection museum is a journey through the history of Porsche
The newly opened Brumos Collection Museum in Jacksonville, Florida is a beautiful remnant of a racing team, dealership, and distributor.
The Brumos Collection focuses on vintage Porsches, mostly race cars, but also an assortment of other vintage cars. This collection has been well known for quite some time, but only by invitation. Today, this living history is housed in a new 35,000 square foot facility in Jacksonville. The Blumos Collection Museum first opened Thursday after a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier in the week.
Its history dates back to 1953, when Herbert Brundage won the rights to sell Volkswagen in the Southeast. He then began racing Porsches and opened a Porsche dealership, Brumos Porsche, in Jacksonville. The dealership would be involved in racing for the next 50-plus years. The team won many victories, thanks in part to legendary racer Hurley Haywood. The Blue Moss name became so synonymous with Porsche racing that Porsche specially applied the Blue Moss livery to the two 911 RSRs that raced in the 2019 Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Blue Moss Porsche closed its doors in 2016, but its collection of cars remained locked away in a warehouse across the street. Today, those cars are open to the public.
Those who pay the $20 admission fee ($15 for children, seniors, and military) can see cars from Porsche and Porsche's history, as well as many other cool European and American cars of yesteryear. Porsches include a 1959 Porsche Tractor, a 1967 910, a 1968 908, Steve McQueen's 917K from the movie "Le Mans," a 1972 917-10, and a 1986 962. Others include a 1920 Miller TNT, a 1925 Bugatti Type 35, a 1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Lungo Spider, a 1958 Watson sprint car, and Mark Martin's 1992 Ford Thunderbird NASCAR stock car.
The museum promises attractions such as a 22-seat movie theater, interactive exhibits, and a research archive. It also has a dyno and machine store, which is an active store.
The Blue Moss Collection will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm. The museum does not allow walk-ups, so buyers must obtain tickets online. Click here to obtain tickets.
