Gordon Murray is launching an electric SUV.

Gordon Murray Automotive, the new automotive company of McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray, is currently putting the final touches on two V-12 supercars.

The company is committed to offering V-12 vehicles as long as emission regulations permit, but will also offer electric vehicles in preparation for the post internal combustion engine era, and some of these electric vehicles will be SUVs.

Gordon Murray said it plans two electric SUVs for Gordon Murray Automotive and major car companies when it announced the formation of design and engineering consultancy Gordon Murray Technology on Thursday.

One SUV will seat four passengers and have front-wheel drive, and the other will seat five passengers and have four-wheel drive. The SUVs for Gordon Murray Automotive will feature a more affordable price tag than the seven-figure price tags of the company's supercars and will make people "rethink the potential of electric vehicles," Murray said.

The SUVs will be developed by Gordon Murray Technology and use an in-house developed platform. Gordon Murray Technology and Gordon Murray Automotive are part of the same Gordon Murray Group. Gordon Murray serves as chairman of the group and is responsible for product design and engineering.

Rumor has it that the SUV will utilize Murray's iStream design and production process. iStream uses a tubular frame combined with pre-assembled composite panels featuring a honeycomb structure to assemble the car instead of traditional unibody and pressed metal production.

No mention was made of a release date for the SUV.

As for Gordon Murray Automotive's existing models, the T.50 Supercar is scheduled to begin production later this year. The T.33 Supercar will then go into production in 2024. Gordon Murray Automotive plans to offer electrified supercars after that, and the T.33 is confirmed to be the last V-12 model not to be electrified.
