Preview 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV Coming, Priced at $30,000, Up to 300 Miles of Range

Automakers have unveiled a flurry of electric vehicles over the past 24 months, but few have been targeted at families on a tight budget. That will change with the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, which was unveiled Thursday ahead of its market launch in fall 2023.

The Equinox EV is a fully electric compact crossover that will start at about $30,000 before incentives. This price target is for the front-wheel drive base grade 1LT, which has an estimated range of 250 miles. With a battery upgrade, the range can be increased to 300 miles with front-wheel drive and 280 miles with all-wheel drive.

The front-wheel drive model has a maximum output of 210 hp and maximum torque of 242 lb-ft, while the all-wheel drive model has a maximum output of 290 hp and maximum torque of 346 lb-ft. One-pedal driving will be standard regardless of the powertrain.

Chevrolet will further enhance the model lineup, offering more fully equipped 2LT, 3LT, 2RS, and 3RS grades. Chevrolet will initially offer only a limited edition of the 2RS grade. Release dates for other grades, including the base 1LT, will be announced closer to market launch next year.

Chevrolet also did not elaborate on the battery specs, but stated that it will add about 70 miles of range in 10 minutes when charged on a 150kw DC fast charger. Like other GM EVs, the Equinox EV's battery comes with an 8-year/100,000 mile limited warranty.

The Equinox EV has an attractive design, with a thin upper light strip up front that appears to be a new standard for Chevrolet EVs. Flared front fenders and a wide rear haunch give it an athletic stance, while the blunt rear roofline provides a different look than a typical crossover.

Inside, the Equinox EV shares technology and design with the Blazer EV; GM's limited edition Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance system is also on the options list, and additional electronic driving assistive features will also be available.

Both the Equinox EV and Blazer EV will use GM's Ultium EV platform and battery set. Both vehicles will also be manufactured at the same plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. These gas-powered models will continue to be sold along with the new electric models.
