Porsche 911-based RR1 becomes first model of Rezvani Retro

Rezvani of California this week unveiled the first creation from its new Rezvani Retro division, the RR1 sports car.

Based on the current generation Porsche 992, it draws inspiration from the wild road and race cars built by Kramer Racing of Germany in the 1970s, especially the slant-nose Porsche 935 K series.

Resvani may be best known for building huge SUVs and jet-fighter-inspired sports cars, but its new division, as its name suggests, is aimed at buyers looking for retro design. According to Rezvani, its mission is to offer cars with a modern foundation and convenience coupled with designs that borrow from icons of the past.

The RR1, like Porsche's own 935 Tribute unveiled in 2018, features a custom carbon fiber body with a modern take on the 935. In an interesting twist, Rezvani's designers appear to have swapped the round lights of the donor 911 for the square lights of the Taycan. A large rear wing is also present.

Three versions are available based on the 911 Carrera S, GT3/GT3 RS, and Turbo S grades. The Carrera S version is known as the RR1 550 and is powered up to 550 hp. Various suspension upgrades are available, including Ohlins TTX-Pro coilovers. Also available is the RR1 565, based on the naturally aspirated GT3 and GT3 RS grades, with peak power increased to 565 hp.

The range-topping RR1 750 is based on the Turbo S, and its peak power is raised to a supercar-like 750 hp for the track version. According to Rezvani, throttle response is sharper than normal, and the suspension has been tuned for circuit use. 715 hp and a modest street version with a more comfort-oriented suspension tuning will also be available.

Production of the RR1 will be limited to 50 units worldwide. Standard pricing has not been announced, but according to Rezvani, the first five units will be sold at a discounted price of $149,000, not including the cost of donor 911.

This comes just months after Rezvani unveiled the second generation of its debut sports car, the Beast. The latest Beast is based on the C8 Chevrolet Corvette platform and boasts a peak output of 1,000 hp.
