2026 Volkswagen Atlas was spying for the first time
Volkswagen has been testing and discovering a prototype of the redesigned Atlas, and the new midsize SUV seems to be already in the late stages of development. The current Atlas is available from the 2018 model, with an average annual sales of more than 60,000 units.
Given the success, VW is unlikely to rock the boat with a new model, and judging by the prototype, it looks exactly like it is.
The dimensions appear to be roughly the same between 2 generations, and the Suv appears to have similar letter lines, but in the new version it is slightly smoothed, and fine details such as the lights and fascia design are hidden under camouflage gear, while door handles and extensions that are flush with the body The new roof mount
prototype is for the 3-column Atlas, but VW is also believed to be preparing a new generation of 2-column Atlas cross sports.
The new Atlas could be underpinned by an updated version of the current generation of MQB platforms known as mqb Evo. The updated platform supports electric powertrain, including a plug-in hybrid setup, but it's not clear if Atlas's electrification is planned. The only powertrain at launch could be the 2024 standardized 269 hp 2.0-litre Turbo 4.
Production for the United States should be done at VW's plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the current generation is being built. VW is also building an Atlas in China where the SUV is known as the Teramont.
