Royal Land Rover Scheduled for Pebble Beach
A collection of 10 Land Rovers used by the British Royal Family will be on display at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the climactic event of the 2024 Monterey Car Week, on August 18. [According to Land Rover, this is the first time these vehicles will be displayed outside the UK. The exhibit is being organized by Land Rover Classics, a company specializing in the restoration and maintenance of vintage vehicles.
The vehicles on display have been used by members of the Royal Family, including Queen Elizabeth II, either on official occasions or as Royal Family household vehicles. They come from the private collections of the Royal Family, Land Rover Classics, the British Motor Museum, and private collections.
On display will be a 1954 Land Rover Series I, equipped with a rear platform custom-designed for it; other state-owned vehicles will be on display, including a 1958 Series II and several Range Rovers.
Land Rover will also display a 1954 Series I used by Queen Elizabeth II and other senior members of the royal family at Balmoral, a private royal estate in Scotland; a 1966 Land Rover Series IIa station wagon; a 1983 Defender 110 V8, and a 2009 Range Rover driven by the late Queen will also be on display.
None of these Land Rovers are for sale, but former royal vehicles regularly appear at auction. Queen Elizabeth II's 2004 Range Rover will be auctioned in the UK in 2023, and several cars once owned by Princess Diana are also for sale. Her 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo S1 sold for a whopping $846,000 in 2022.
