2026Kia EV2 was spied for the first time
Kia is testing a prototype of an electric crossover that is even smaller than the EV5 sub-compact announced on May 3.
Newcomers, who are also subcompact, could be called EV2. And judging by its size and boxy shape, it might at some point be replacing Kia's soul EV.
The EV2 is expected to go on sale in 2026, but may not be sold in the U.S. due to its small size.In other markets, it competes with new batches of small electric crossovers such as Renault4E-Tech, Fiat Grande Panda and Mini Aceman.
The EV2 should ride on the same low-cost version as the Hyundai Motor Group's flexible E-GMP platform found in the Ev3. To curb costs, Kia skips the e-GMP's normal 800-volt electrical system and favors a 400-volt system, which slows down the charging time. Front-wheel drive may also be the only configuration.
In the EV3, Kia announced battery options of 58.3kwh (standard) and 81.4kwh (long range). A similar one could be offered in the EV2.
There is no clear shot of the EV2 cabin, but inside, like Kia's other EVs, the SU for digital gauge cluster and infotainment hub Kia also plans an AI-powered voice assistant for its latest car.
Kia has a mission to deliver at least 2027 EVs by the end of 14 years. The ev4 hatch and liftback, as well as the high-performance EV9GT, have also been tested.
Kia has suggested a crossover that the automaker has previously confirmed a pickup truck and possibly called the ev7, but it is quiet on what future EVs are planned for the United States. Kia is also testing electric vans that may be offered locally.
