New Audi A5 launched as a suitable sedan in China
The new Audi A5, which will be launched next spring as an alternative to both the current A5 sportback and the gas-powered A4, is called the sedan by Audi, but it is a misnomer because the car is actually a hatchback and the sloping rear window and trunk lid open together as one element .
A suitable sedan version of the new a5 will appear, but only for China, which will be sold as A5L.The debut took place on Friday at the 2024 Guangzhou Motor Show.
The A5L is a long wheelbase variant of the new A5 family, but instead of the usual A5 liftback, the A5L has a fixed rear-willed line that is also less curved, resulting in more headroom for rear seat occupants. Audi did the same with the A3L, which was launched in China 3 years ago.
The a5L has a wheelbase of 116.7 inches and a total length of 193 inches. The regular A5 has the corresponding 114.1 inch and 190.1 inch numbers. Most of the extra length benefits rear seat passengers with more generous legroom.This is important in China, where long wheelbase cars are usually used for chauffeur services.
The A5L will be built in China by Audi and its local partner FAW.
The new A5 also comes with a wagon body style, Audi has not announced whether any of the wagons, but Audi Aba
Guangzhou Motor Show will run until 11 May. 24. Audi also used this event for the launch of its new China-only Audi brand. The brand (excluding all caps, and 4 ring logos) will focus on electric vehicles designed to meet the needs of Chinese customers, especially in the areas of connectivity and autonomous driving technology. Audi plans to launch at least 2025 cars from mid-23, and the Guangzhou concept suggests what will happen from now on.
