1984 Tiga SC84 Sports 2000 Tiga SC84 that belonged to John Oates is up for auction

A historic racing car from the collection of rock star John Oates will be auctioned for charity at RM Sotheby's Amelia Island Sale on March 6-7.

The 1984 Tiga SC84 Sports 2000 will be offered without reserve, with all proceeds going to the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Foundation in honor of the Concours' 25th anniversary of charity.

RM Sotheby's 22nd Annual Florida Sale will be held during Car Week, an auction and show culminating with the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, March 8.

Chassis 249 Tiga was acquired in 2018 by Oates and his wife Amy, inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame of the popular duo Hall and Oates; according to a news release from RM Sotheby's, "In 1974, Formula 1 drivers Tim Schenken and Howden Ganley founded Tiga, a racing car manufacturer named after the first two letters of their first and last names, respectively. Over the years, Tiga achieved its greatest success with the Sport 2000 series, building open cockpit prototypes.

"Tiga's SC84 Sport 2000 models won numerous championships and events, including four British, three European, and one American championship. Tiga also won Le Mans in 1985 and the Group C2 Team Award in the World Endurance Championship, as well as victories at Daytona in 1987 and 1988 and the IMSA Camel Lights Championship in 1988.

According to the release, chassis 249 underwent a comprehensive restoration from 2017-18, including an engine rebuild, to fully prepare it for vintage racing. According to the release, Tiga received a new gearbox, clutch, and bearings, and the body was restored to like-new condition with custom coloring by Kevin Jeannette.

John and Amy Oates will celebrate their 25th anniversary this year, shortly after the Amelia Island Concours celebrates its 25th anniversary.

"Our hope is that the funds raised from the sale of the race cars will be a comfort and resource for the individuals and families supported by the charitable work of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Foundation," said John Oates.

The RM Sotheby's auction of 140 collector cars will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Resort adjacent to the golf fairway where the Concours will be held. For more information, see the auction website.
